What month do you sow courgette seeds/zucchini seeds?

Generally, zucchini/courgette seeds are best sown in New Zealand during spring, from October to November. This gives the seedlings the warmth and sunlight they need for strong germination. Zucchini plants thrive in warmer soil. For an earlier harvest, you can start zucchini seeds indoors 3 to 4 weeks before spring begins and transplant them outside after the last frost in your location and once conditions are optimal.

Do courgettes like full sun?

Yes, courgettes/zucchinis thrive with proper sun exposure. Generally, zucchini plants require at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight per day. Planting them in a sunny spot ensures strong growth and higher production. In addition to sunlight, zucchinis prefer well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and consistent watering. Providing enough sunlight, along with proper spacing, will help your zucchini plants thrive and produce a bountiful harvest.

How many zucchinis grow from one seed?

A single zucchini/courgette seed will produce one plant that can yield multiple fruits throughout the growing season. On average, one healthy plant can yield between 6 to 10 zucchinis, depending on the variety and growing conditions. With proper care, including regular watering, sunlight and nutrient-rich soil, you can encourage abundant growth. Harvesting zucchini regularly promotes further flowering, allowing you to enjoy a steady supply of fresh zucchini all season long.
