How Deep Should I Plant Silverbeet Seeds?

Silverbeet seed is best sown direct into the garden or container where you want it to grow. As a general rule you should sow seed twice the depth of the seed, for silverbeet seeds this is about 12mm deep in well-prepared soil. Space rows approximately 30cm apart within and between rows to allow adequate room for growth. Proper sowing depth ensures successful germination and robust seedlings.

When is the Best Time to Plant Silverbeet Seeds?

For best results and optimal growth plant silverbeet seeds in autumn or late-winter through to mid-spring. Silverbeet seeds are hardy and prefer cooler temperatures, with an optimal soil temperature between 10-25 degrees celsius. Seed can be sown throughout the spring and summer months but ensure some shade during the hottest part of the day and keep moisture up to plants so they don't become stressed and prematurely bolt to seed.
